about

Odaka
---------
Rawakari’s first projects made us travel in vertical forms. After driving “Ikebana”’s rhythmical frameworks into the wall, he now weaves a new alias called “Odaka”. Built around a rhythmical skeleton that is definitely more dancefloor - but still visual - a story is told in deep, organic basslines whose multiple contortions surprise at every turn. Assembled with refined acid sounds sparingly improvised, the music is as much to dance to as it is to listen to. Out here there are no mouse-clicks, just the startling melodic hum of resurrected machines.

Warm Geometry
----------------------
Warm Geometry is the second in our Pastorale Electronics series, which aims to promote “young talent” from the banana republic most of us here at Unrezt call home [Wallonia for those of you who haven’t been following]. To be fair, Odaka doesn’t really qualify as “young talent”, as he’s already made quite a name for himself as Rawakari, with a first EP – entitled “Ikebana” - released on the notorious Elf Cut imprint at the dawn of the millennium. Nonetheless, this is a novel enterprise for him, as instead of resorting to extensive editing and treatments with a computer, he dabbles here with a flurry of machines, to obtain that distinctive analogue sound. Even the graphic design is the result of a more “back to basics” technique, without the assistance of a computer once again, but rather via sketching and plain and simple drawing. I believe this may even be the appropriate time to pay homage to the wankers who broke in to his place and nicked all his gear, without which he probably would never have picked up a pad and a pencil again. Which goes to show that good still sometimes comes from bad.
